The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
