Star Refutes Anti-Vax Views Following Narrating Disputed Covid Film
Liam Neeson has lent his voice to a new documentary that questions the legitimacy of vaccines and praises one-time health official Robert F Kennedy Jr.
The Film's Disputed Foundation
Named "Plague of Corruption," the documentary is adapted from a popular book co-authored by a controversial scientist, who rose to infamy during the pandemic for assertions that the illness was a result of a faulty batch of the flu vaccine.
The book's collaborator, a producer, has also written books with far-right radio host a known commentator. He recently posted praising Neeson's participation in the documentary.
A Firm Rebuttal
A spokesperson for Liam Neeson have issued a comment firmly refuting suggestions that he subscribes to anti-immunization sentiments.
"We all recognize that corruption can exist within the drug industry, but that cannot be equated to opposition to vaccines," the comment reads. "He never has been, and cannot be described as, anti-vax. His considerable work with Unicef reinforces his consistent support for public-health initiatives."
The statement noted that the star was not involved in crafting the film's editorial content and that questions about its claims should be directed to the producers.
Major Assertions In the Feature
According to the documentary, the narration spoken by Neeson features several strong statements:
- It suggests that pro-immunization voices have demanded "blind obedience" to public institutions.
- It posits that "science has become deeply politicised."
- Robert F Kennedy Jr is shown stating, "The core flaw with vaccines is that they simply are not safely tested."
- The narration also criticizes Covid lockdowns, claiming they caused mental anguish that led to the loss of thousands of lives.
- Concerning Covid vaccines, it references a perspective that they were "rushed to market" and seen as "dangerous experiments."
Past Context and Ongoing Disputes
The film includes a historical film about clinical trials on children, which was afterwards the subject of a formal apology by the corporation for violations of guidelines.
Last month, Kennedy called on the CDC to revise its longstanding position that there is no connection between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder. This claim is echoed in the film, even with a recent study from the WHO stating no connection has been found.
A Previous Statement of Support
Differing from the film's message, Neeson has in the past shown firm endorsement for vaccines in his capacity as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
In 2022, he referred to vaccines as "an incredible achievement," adding that "The conversation about vaccines in lately has forgotten how much benefit they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest shared accomplishments in our history."
"Plague of Corruption" finishes with Neeson's narration saying, "This marks not the conclusion of our story. This is the beginning of a new chapter."
